Napa vintners Steve & Judy Padis’ passion for diamonds is matched only by their passion for wine. For the Padis family, both wine and jewelry are fine gems worth making and collecting.
As a jeweler by trade, Steve got his start stringing shell beads on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley in the 1970s. Steve moved with the times venturing into sterling silver and gold chain, ultimately finding his true passion in diamonds. Today he and his wife, Judy, own and operate four jewelry stores in the San Francisco Bay Area called Padis Jewelry.
Making his own wine was one of Steve’s biggest dreams and when the time seemed right, he and Judy began to plan their dream home in the Napa Valley, situated on 15 acres of hillside with panoramic views of the valley and vineyards. Tired of contracting out the grapes grown on property, Steve and Judy decided it was time to channel their passion and to begin making their own wine. In 2007 they produced their first vintage of Padis wine— one barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon that was an exclusive to charity auctions and family.
Since 2007, Padis Vineyards has grown from one barrel to a nearly 1,500 case per year production; still a small boutique winery by Napa standards, yet larger and far more successful than the Padis family originally anticipated.
